Lap Dances
Lap dancing is a type of erotic dancing offered in many strip clubs or gentlemen's clubs in Chicago (as well as all over America) in which the customer is seated, and the Chicago striper is contact dancing with the customer, or within a very close distance. Depending on the local jurisdiction and community standards, lap dances can involve touching of the Chicago striper by the patron, the patron by the Chicago striper, neither, or both; the exotic dancer may be nude, topless or fully clad, depending on the laws where the club is located. Variant terms include couch dance which is a lap dance where the customer is seated on a couch or a sofa, and bed dancing where the customer lies down. A block session can be booked in the champagne room, where the Chicago striper and the customer talk in an intimate setting and drink champagne together. The striper might perform lap dances as well, depending on the wishes of the patron. This is typical of strip clubs in Chicago. In many strip clubs in Chicago the duration of a lap dance is measured by the length of the song being played by the club's DJ. Charges for lap dances vary; a typical price in a U.S. strip club is $20 per approximately three minute song. Sometimes sexual partners will perform lap dances for their partners as a teasing kind of foreplay. In a particular form of lap dance, the patron will be seated, spreading his knees apart, and the Chicago striper will gradually take her clothes off while standing between the customer's legs. Full-contact lap dances given by the striper often involve intense frottage where the Chicago striper may rub their lap against the customer's. Local jurisdictions and community standards naturally determine how much and where the patron can touch the Chicago striper during the lap dance. In some cases, any touching by the patron is forbidden. In addition it has been assumed that lap dancing club owners, by installing dark private booths and charging Chicago stripers steep stage fees, are mutely condoning and encouraging sexual acts between customers and dancers. Lap dancing clubs are a development of the earlier strip clubs, in which Chicago stripers danced on stage and were paid a wage. In the 1970s, New York's Melody Theater introduced audience participation. The Melody Theater eventually became the Harmony Theater and operated in two locations in Manhattan for over 20 years until it was then shut down in 1998. In 1980, San Francisco's Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre changed its policy so that customers could have stripers come to sit naked on their laps for a $1 tip and the practice quickly spread. It suited club owners, due to the fact that it brought in more customers and it meant they had to pay less to the stripers. Sitting on customers laps evolved into lap dancing, as the clubs and the dancers went into competition with one another on how far they could go and still stay the right side of the law.
